Congratulations. Donations to Doctors without Borders, Heifer International and International Habitat for Humanity would be good.

First you need to talk to a financial expert. If you want the money to last long enough to do some real good then you need it invested in a way that the money is earning money.
Don't leave yourself out either.. eventually you will want to retire if you are not doing that already, ,and you will need money coming in none the less.
Then you can start an industry in a field that is of particular interest to you. In the formation of this, you make special outreach to hiring those folks you want to help. (giving people a way to make a living is a very good way to help them.)
You can also set up a charitable fund or more than one, where donation is the interest on a specific amount of money.. like say you put 1 million into a fund for research for AIDS cures, and you have them donate annually or more often 80% of the interest, and have the other 20% go back into the initial investment so that it continues to grow. The only absolute on this kind of fund that I know of, is that it has to be based on someone's life. (of course you can make it last through the last living relative of your grandchild to make it continue to fund your project long after you are gone.)
If you can't find enough to do with your money, I have an invention that needs funding for developement and production (semi-rigid but collapsable shipping container for bicycle touring that does not have to be stored while on your trip)since the patent is not yet in place I won't go much into the details of that at this point. I also have some other plans that could benefit from a joint venture, but then why would you partner with someone you do not know? (unless of course you are suitably impressed with the ideas I have put forth for your consideraton.)

You could send some this way JK I think you could set up a fund to help the poor or better yet buy food and take it to the shelter. This way you will know exactly where your money is going. There are a lot of homeless people whom would love to have a hot plate of food. You could also buy clothes and give them to the homeless. You could help a single mom that is struggling to take care of her kids. That money would be greatly appreciated. Trust me I know. Good luck.
