Glasgow's was originally a trading city, and then an industrial city, it's rich architecure was built by the rich merchants of the time. The clyde was the source of income, from trading to boat building but those days are mostly gone and Glasgow has reinvented itself as a modern, city. in recent years it's been the city of culture, city of architecture. It's a very different city from edinburgh in many ways the people are different, I would say more friendly and down to earth than edinburgh, though others may disagree. I am not sure you can distingush between the cities in the sense of white collar and blue collar anymore, Glasgow has alot of well educated professional so I don't think it's the case now.
Edinburgh is a royal city and it has the architecture of a royal city, with the castle, and the royal mile.

Juan S is a right radge for copypasting such an article. If he couldn't think up an answer, or copy a bloody URL to it, he should shut it.

But anyway, the difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh is in the people most of all. Edinburgh prides itself in being a capital, very pretty and distinguished - whereas Glasgow is also pretty and distinguished, but doesn't take any pride in it. Glaswegians are more loosened up, a bit rougher perhaps even. That's the short version.

I think of Glasgow as a blue collar town and Edinburgh as a white collar town. I don't know how accurate that really is however. To put it another way, Glasgow is an industrial town and Edinburgh is more of a government town.

Being on the East Coast Edinburgh is sunnier then Glasgow but from what I've read people are ruder but I find that strange if the climate is sunnier there then Glasgow which is more like Seattle where there isn't really any heavy downpours but it pisses drizzle a lot and often the skies are cloudy where it looks like it could rain at anytime but nothing comes out.

Edingburgh is windier looking at wind data on Weather Underground there is constant breezes of 20-30mph on clear days and temps are around freezing at night.

I am not sure if the wind actually prevents a lot frost due to mixing up the atmosphere because it's even windy when it's below freezing which may prohibit frost.
