Marriage for most people works reasonably well & people thrive on being together, but by the same token for some people opposites attract and these relationships can be intense, as they say
" Marry in haste, repent at leisure" but there is truth in the old adage that "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" these relationships are much more likely to survive given breathing space. In addition Children would benefit more greatly from two parents part-time than one full-time, Marriage is about commitment & Men should take theirs slightly more seriously, Women less so.
As for the Pharmacutical Company, i will still be a lot wealthier when the Morning After Pill becomes available over the counter! Marriage needs to move with times!

I think the "institution" of marriage could stand some overhaulling.
Maybe renewable options every 3 to 5 years or change the vows to something like "I will love, honor and cherrish you as long as you give me a reason to". Hell, it's clearly not working most of the time, As Is.
I use to do wedding videos (for over 10 years). Most of the couples I contracted with aren't even together any more. A lot of the grooms had no reason being in a tux that day than a gopher. It was all about an open bar. And some of those "bridezillas" never went back into normal mode. Can you expect a guy to live with that "til death do we part"?
Yeah, I think marriage needs lots of changes...or do away with it. You don't need marriage to be a parent. Humans are the only species that does that and we screw it up royally.

Dude part time marriage isn't that just dating?
What would be the point, since the sole purpose of marriage is to ensure the legitimacy of your heirs. A "part-time" marriage would leave serious doubt as to the actual lineage of your children.
Of course there are plenty of other reasons for marriage I've only broken it down to the most basic element.

No. People shouldn't get married unless they plan to stay married. So many people say, well if it doesn't work out we can just get a divorce. I don't get it. If you can not stay faithful or committed or really really look at the person you want to marry and say, yes I can spend the rest of my life with him/her, then DO NOT get married. Marriage is such a joke now, it is sad. The people that respect it for what it is, should get married, the people that don't, then don't.

Having a part-time marriage law would bankrupt divorce attorneys but it would not encourage couples to stay together or lower the number of one parent families.

No! You must be in the health care profession. Specifically the pharmaceutical category. You want STD's to run wild and society to have a devastating down fall, don't you?
