any fossil fuel in non-renewable. It takes millions of years to form.
there are many renewables:
Bio-fuels (fuel made from plants ie. ethanol)
Hydrogen engines (use water)
solar cells use sunlight,
wind turbines (windmill)
hydro-electric dams,
thermal heating (hot springs almost the whole nation of Iceland runs off themal electricity)
Then you have nuclear power, it comes in two varieties:
Fission and Fusion
Fission: it is used currently in nuclear power plants, it is highly contriversial and dangerous and a political nightmare.
Fusion: The ultimate power source. Fusion takes almost no fuel (and it is water btw) and fuses (force to combine) hydrogen attoms. In so doing it creates huge ammounts of heat (tens of millions of degrees) this is then used to heat water to drive turbines. Currently we can't do it effectively (where we make more power than we consume in the process) If we could then energy problems would be solved for many years to come. In fact the entire world population could be supplied with very cheap electricity and it would only take made 20 big power plants to do this. Imagine all the money our countries could divert to forgien development or scientific research. It would be a new era for mankind.

Oil is a non renewable source. We can't make oil synthetically and it takes a very long process to remake oil.
Timber is a renewable resource, as long as we dont use it faster than it is grown.
