They are wrong. They probably used the same CD to install windows on all of the computers, and sometimes if you use the CD on more than one computer you will get that message. Is your computer refurbished? If so the previous owners may have installed it. Anyways, they store has to fix the problem, not you.

Was the fact that Windows was preinstalled part of the selling price of the computer, kind of like a "package deal?" If it was, you should have gotten a registered copy of Windows. Did you get a Windows CD with it? If it's a copy, the store is clearly in violation of copyright laws. It is clearly illegal to run off copies of Windows on various computers and sell them for profit.

That a lot for a copy of windows. Contact Microsoft and thell get after the shop for you real quick, If you have a small claims court you can recover for the cost of the new copy.

It's illegal to sell that illegal copy...I know some one who was sued by Microsoft for 8 million bucks like that.
They make it so high that there's no way to fight it.
I would demand a legal copy that you can install or you will report them to Microsoft.
Does your reciept say that it includes the OS?

Call Microsoft and tell them what happened to you, and who sold you the computer.

Check the link below, it is Microsofts Anti-Piracy page.
