For the first offense, he will have to take anger management classes, this may help, or may be the both of you could go for counseling. Communication is the key to a good marriage.

Umm wait a minute. If it was towards you don't worry about it and get out of the relationship as fast as possible. It will never get better and it WILL get worse.
If it was towards someone else then again why worry. If he is unable to control himself then let the punishment fit the crime. There is no excuse. If I can't beat up on someone then he shouldn't either.
Unfortunately the punishment is never very good in these cases, which is why the abuse continues and the women involved continue to be hurt or killed until they get out the relationship.

Yeah, usually the are required to go to anger management classes. But that might be after the first offense. No they usually don't get jail time. The most you can get for yourself is a restraining order. That's about it. You can check with your local law enforcement agency.

Usually classes. Conviction means no firearms ever. Loss of pistol permit too.
However...you don't go to jail first time...unless you cripple, maim or kill your significant other.
Maybe he'll learn that stupid talk will get you into hot water now. Of course YOU apparently felt that he would carry out this threat or you wouldn't have called the police would you?

Hmmm...
4th graders shouldn't know this, but it depends how bad that he hurt the person...
I'd say sometime from 2-5 months in jail, then about 6 months in anger class...

Wait and go to the court hearing/trial. I would suggest that you get an attorney and dump this jerk!
