an electronic pest controller. it emits a high frequency tone. the problem with ants is that by the time you see them you have already trained them to co-habitate with you. you can kill some but others have already transmitted to the nest the location of your goodies. the high pitch tone doesn't kill them, it allows them to return to the nest with new information-annoying noise-forget the goodies i imagine. in any event it worked for me and i haven't seen an ant in my house for two years. i had the device plugged in for a week and now it's packed away where i can find it if i need it. good luck.

Get rid of them for good? Buy a pet anteater. Short of "for good", Amdro works good, so does boric acid, and Diatomaceous Earth.
Keep the kitchen clean and the goodies up high out of reach of scout ants. Scrub floor and clean counter tops. Those scouts have good noses. If you see one of those scouts --you know, the ant all alone -- show no mercy. Smash him. He is a big gossiper back at the mound.

Go here and buy Diatomaceous Earth, (it is not really earth,) I recommend them because their's is food grade and is safe to use anywhere. It won't harm people or pets but will kill anything with an exoskeleton (that includes ants, roaches, etc.)

You might find DE at a garden center or somewhere else on-line, but be sure that you are getting a food grade.

Of course follow the instructions.

This will get the job done without using chemicals.

A quick fix is vinigar. But if you want to get rid of them until next year here is what you do. Go to Walgreens drug store and go to the incecticide part of the store and get you some TERRO ANT KILLER it is a LIQUID ANT BAIT. I do this once a year and it works great.

buy some boric acid in powder form. spray along the walls. ants eat it and take it back to their nest. safe and simple.
