I would suggest all of the below.
- High GPA/Class Rank
- High SAT scores (the school's web site will probably give you an idea of what you need to have)
- A very well-written essay or two on your application
- A niche you can fill in the college. If you're a varsity athlete the coaches will vouch for your admission. If you're a musician that can help the marching band, same. The school will accept you if you think you can contribute to the school in some way.
- Letters of recommendation from very powerful people. Congressmen, Senators, CEOs. Also, knowing at least a few alumni from the college is very important to them. (It shouldn't be, but tradition is very important to these ding dongs.)
- Community achievements, like you said. Volunteering, things like that.
- For some Ivys you will have to have one-on-one interviews in person with admissions personnel and/or alumni, so you'll have to be rather impressive in speech, not just in print.
- And I'm probably forgetting many other things. But the more imporant things are that diversity is key, and it's all about who you know.
In response to the above comment, I know Harvard for one claims to be able to support anyone that gains admittance with enough financial aid, therefore allowing just about anyone to attend the school should they pass the rigorous admissions process. Whether this is true, I couldn't say.

I agree, apply.
From your description you are qualified to apply to an Ivy League school, but you need to distinguish yourself to be admitted. High grades and scores are necessary most of the time, but the schools are also looking for unique individuals that will add to the campus environment.
I think the first thing you should do is figure out what you are interested in studying and what size of school you would like. These two factors will help you find the universities that are right for you.
If you know what you want, it is easier to target your application to programs where you have the maximum chance to get admitted.

APPLY!!!! You sound like you are giving up before you even make an attempt. You should apply to every school that you think you might want to get into.
If you are so sure you won't make the Ivy League then ALSO apply to your favorite state college as a backup. Who knows one of the big guys may want you. If they do, be prepared to shell out major bucks. Even the state colleges have gotten outrageous but the Ivy League is REALLY pricy.

in simple terms save on. the thought schools will choose those with better tutorial success over others is incorrect. once I utilized to 6 colleges, I have been given rejected by utilising 3 even nonetheless that they had a decrease tutorial usual than different colleges. They think approximately your ability and character. it is the comparable for Ivy League.

I know that most Ivy League schools reserve spots for the valedictorian and salutatorian of all high schools...that leaves very little room for anything else. Who are you related to politically/sports/or entertainment wise? That could help

you probably need a high SAT too. I think the question is that you might get in, but you may need to be able to pay for it too. Scholarships are probably hard to get.

Sadly, a lot of times it's who you know and whether or not you're related to or friends with alumni.
