Hmmm....if it's a nice guitar, it might be worth a pretty penny. On signed stuff, the price will vary depending on how big a fan the buyer is. What you can do is have the guitar itself appraised. Don't mess with pawn shops or big chain stores (like Guitar Center). You need to find an antique guitar dealer. Hopefully there's one near you. If not, you may have to find one online and send them digital pictures of the guitar.
Once you find out the value of the guitar itself, you'll have a better idea of how much the signature is worth.

It would be a gretsch guitar and you can take it to any guitar shop to have it evaluated. Chet Atkins was a country-western singer that died in 2001. If there is a date as well as a signature it could be worth quite a bit of money. Anything that was a famous persons usually brings good money. I think that I would get more than one estimate on it though. You might also want to look into Chet Atkins memorabilia, or any of his many fan clubs.

A Chet Akins guitar should bring in a lot of money. Just being a Gretsch, depending on the condition, model, and year, should be worth a couple thousand (assuming it's not one of their cheap, lower end models). Now that Chet has passed, the market should go up. But remember, it's only worth what someone wants to pay for it.

Look for professional appraisers in the phone book. They would be the best bet. You might also look for collector shops while you have the book open, if they can't tell you the value they may be able to guide you toward someone who can.

If you can't find an appraiser try calling an insurance company, they might tell you how to contact one.

It's worth whatever the market will bear.
