Because he's a Mormon, and has voiced his opinions on the matter in interviews, though he's trying to live it down. Also, he wrote a science fiction book (or series, I'm not sure) where the alien bad guys are actually called "Buggers." I don't know if that was a Freudian thing or not. Card is pretty highly over-rated, anyway, though there was some good stuff in the Alvin Maker series.

Here's an interesting ARTICLE on the role of the "queen" and queen culture in sci-fi books. Very interesting and references Ender's queen many times. Over all I think the message in Ender's game was cultural tolerance - so we have a conundrum!
