He wonders if it would be a clear liquid. My theory is that the crystaline structure would break down and that it would just look like magma, but I don't know for sure. Anyone actually seen it?

Yes, I work in a hot glass factory and it is a clear fluid. When you see pictures of a yellow, glowing fluid, it is the material shining with the light of the furnace, not the color of the material itself.

It would look like magma, which is not a clear liquid, but a glowing orange liquid.
