common dreams. we can both visualize standing side by side next to each other in 40 years, looking first into the sunset on the ocean and then into the light reflected in each others' eyes, and knowing we've made it this far together and will make it always and forever. our future is together: we love each other now, and we dream of how we will live then. it warms the cockles of my heart to dream of the future with my love next to me.

common philosophies. about life, and love, and how to treat people and everything else in this world. we respect together, and together we hold life in high esteem. we both share the same view of human nature and life, and we both are sensitive to each others' needs. and finally compatible views regarding the role of man in the world, and how we view god.

common tastes. we don't need to be identical, but we do need to be compatible. if i'm from mars and she's from venus, houston we have a problem. but if we can meet halfway and learn to appreciate those things the other person values, then we will have shown respect, interest, and a willingness to compromise. and like fat albert said, "if you're not careful, you just might learn something before you're through."

#1 most important thing to have in common is personality. at least that way you know you'll click.
#2 is to have the same perspective on your relationship together, so you both have the same expectations and mindset in moving forward with the relationship.

(my dilemma, i have #1, but not #2)

i think it is personality
things like to do
sex drive should be close
and most definitely one should be much more mellow than the other if not they will not get along
one should be like the one to try and calm down the situation and not both same hard headed as the other
and working two jobs that will give you time to be together at some point in the week; some alone time

Our values. I'm Catholic and he's Jewish, but we have very strong family values and a sense of respect and responsibility. It's nice because I don't have to question his judgement and I can trust his decisions and he can trust mine.
