ITALIANS. Ah!

I'm romanian and it's so annoying how everybody always says "omg omg so ur like romanian??? ur from rome???"

or

"wheres romania??? is that like part of rome?"

or

"are you russian????" (they say that because people today are ignorant and automatically when they see a white person and they know that they are not italian, french, or german, they assume that they are Russian because that's the only other country in europe they know of.)

etc.

Romania is in EASTERN EUROPE, Italy is in WESTERN EUROPE. They are not connected in any way. The culture is completely different. The food is in NO WAY similar. The people look completely different.

Learn your history. Learn your geography.

People today are so ignorant.

The Roman Empire is gone. At it's peak, everything from Egypt to England was Roman. It's center was at the city called Rome. They spoke Latin. Now Rome is in the country of Italy and they speak Italian. I know it's hard to keep up with all these changes. Romanian is a language of eastern Europe which has roots in Latin, just like the modern languages of French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. For a comparison: you write in English. Do you live in England? Are you an Angle?
You can get a better answer by asking "who WERE the Romans?" They're gone now.

Italians.

The Roman Empire was a phase of the ancient Roman civilization characterized by an autocratic form of government. The earlier Roman Republic had been devastated and weakened by the conflict between Gaius Marius and Sulla, followed by the civil war of Julius Caesar against Pompey. During all these struggles hundreds of senators had fallen in battle, been executed, murdered, or had taken their own lives. The Roman Senate had been refilled by loyal friends of the First Triumvirate, and later on, by supporters of the Second Triumvirate. At last, Octavian (later to be known as Augustus) defeated his rival Mark Antony and completed this gradual subversion by thoroughly reorganizing the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.

Ancient Rome was a civilization that grew out of the city-state of Rome, founded in the Italian Peninsula circa the 9th century BC. During its twelve-century existence, the Roman civilization shifted from a monarchy to an oligarchic republic to a vast empire. It came to dominate Western Europe and the entire area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea through conquest and assimilation. However, a number of factors led to the eventual decline of the Roman Empire. The western half of the empire, including Hispania, Gaul, and Italy, eventually broke into independent kingdoms in the 5th century; the eastern empire, governed from Constantinople, is referred to as the Byzantine Empire after 476, the traditional date for the "fall of Rome" and subsequent onset of the Middle Ages.

Romans are people who live in the city of ROME in ITALY so they are italians. ANCIENT ROMANS however, are the people from Rome duirng the times of the Roman Empire as Italy itself was not born yet as a nation.

The Roman Empire set up many of the structures on which the civilisation of modern Europe (and the world today) depends.

The only modern-day Romans are people who live in Rome, Italy, or Rome, NY, or Rome, GA. The ancient Romans were actually descendents of the Etruscans. Today, the descendents of the ancient Romans are known as Italians.

I've asked myself that question; what happen to the Romans? How did they disappear? I believe they took a different name, and it's probably the Italians. But you may be right, probably the Romanians; still don't have the answer.

Many centuries before Italy was united as a country there were different tribes there, and the Romans were one of them. They happened to have a lot of military success conquering everyone else. They are not related to the Romanians, the similar sounding name is a co-incidence.
