Please let me state outright that I love America and all that she stands for, I love my country with all of my heart. So please don't question my patriotism as I am just a concerned citizen.

OK, now for the details of my question: Anybody remember in history class a little place called Rome. How it started off as a little civilization in the heart of Italy with the ideals of democracy and equal acceptance of everybody(except slaves). Remember learing how it grew into a huge superpower, and eventually gained control of the whole mediterranean? Also, please recall that it was ransacked by a horde of mongol rebels, and that the most simple of people took down the most complex of civilizations.

My point is: Is America a Rome version 2.0? If it is, when will it fall? who will it fall to? and what will happen afterwords?

Its already falling . Can't you see!Look how the politicians are running your country how are they treating the people in the hurricane Katrina . Guantanamo Bay , Iraq . Recruiting and sending troops out to fight is more important then looking after them when they come back from this unfair war.Though recruiting may be harder since troops are probably coming home and others are seeing the mess they are in mentally and with the support for Iraq being low now days .You ask a soldier if they have settled in after Iraq , they will still be looking for some adrenaline action though each case may be different they will all suffer some form of trauma .Look how these 'Romans' are sending weapons to Israel as quickly as possible and on the other hand sending Condoleza Rice to negotiate peace.

Anyway it is falling right now , and its all due to those behind Bush . Yes it is falling .Now it is falling. It is falling to the world.Afterwards the international community will not accept it's ways.

The difference is that Rome was in total power for over 500 years, we've just barely passed our bi-centennial . . . now if we the people don't do something about our country the corproate heads whom have taken control of it will run this fantastic place into the ground and destroy everything that we've worked so hard to create . . . . I live in NYC and this is probably the best and closest example of what this country's main purpose was trying to do. All variations of people in color and size and sound living together in a system that works, together. The diversity of this city is something that can't go unnoticed. But this is just only one city . . I would like to see the polocies, diversity and acceptance of this city spread throughout the entire country because wasn't that the point?
We're in a place in our worlds history where we truly can learn from past mistakes, we've actually recorded what we've done for over 2000 years now and in my opinion that's long enough time to look back and see what worked and what didn't . . . and it's time to put the componants of what does work into gear and get things headed in that direction. I don't think any one country or any one society can bring us down, I think that if America does fall it will be because of ourselves or nature. I think there is too much global awareness these days, especially with the internet, for the world now to allow the fall of a country like this one, especially not to one who has no contribution to the world other than a few psychotic idiots who truly believe that causing so much harm to others is worth 70-some virgins. That's sad . . . in my opinion.

If you mean fall, as in our standing in the world, best projections forecast about two hundred years. With one minor problem. Every year our technological advancements keep distancing us from our competing countries. Though the world is more globalized and things are moving faster than ever, we attain things others (With the obvious exceptions being Japan and Great Britain) that other countries can't do. People say that Chinas economy will equal ours in thirty to fifty years and thats fine, but they will still have to divy it up within four times the amount of people and therefore still be behind us. However with the accepted advancement of global warming, I guesstimate that we will have a great epoch brought on by overpopulation, food and water shortages, and energy problems. Will we survive? You betcha! Will America be what it is today? Nope, it will be a little more brutal and less concern over somebodies self-esteem.
