If America is to stay in Iraq and Afghanistan like George Bush wants for ten years, there will be a draft. The Neocons have been unrealistic with all of their bull poo, and with the new puppet Governments the Arabs are rejecting under American military rule. America hasn't accomplished a thing in the Middle East but kill a lot of people.

at present the draft isn't an selection. i think it became a mistake to totally drop it to commence with. it might leave us with so a lot extra constructive selection for persons to serve. Nam vets were not properly dealt with and colour did not make an excellent type of distinction. For those those who've served a log time contained in the service knows its not the colour of a persons' epidermis that counts it the guy who's wearing that epidermis that counts. there may not be a draft now yet that doesn't advise it really is surely not reinstated sometime contained in the destiny. desire of the country is what counts

I think that the draft should have never been eliminated, and I was in the Army when it was eliminated. I think that all young Americans should be in a pool from which people can be drawn for some sort of public service, including military. There are plenty of tasks that people can do that require minimal training, such as clerical work, driving and many service tasks. This would free professional soldiers for more rigorous combat training.
It will be politically impossible to re-instate the draft, but it should never have been discontinued. Richard Nixon did this to appeal to young voters and I think it was a mistake.

The draft wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have a megalomaniac idiot sitting in The White House. Bush re-institutes a draft and it will be 1968 all over again. Might be a good thing to get today's youth interested in politics, but a lot of them will have to die before they catch on.

I don't think the draft is a good idea.
A military unit fights best when it is composed of volunteers who have accepted the call to service. Forcing people to stand where they are going to get shot is just going to result in more attempts to escape from forced servitude. It's going to reduce the overall effectiveness of the military, and dramatically reduce morale both in uniform and at home.

I don't know about the draft, but service to our country is an important thing. As for my own personal experience my time in the Army was one of the best things I ever did. Some of my best friends & fondest memories.
Yes I was in a war, but I feel it was worth it.

Absolutely not. A government that can not fulfill its military goals without resorting to conscription does not deserve to operate. Nothing good ever comes from conscription, look at the carnage of the 20th century that it made possible; without it, World War One (and thus WWII, as well) could never have happened. Once people found out that they would be stuck in festering trenches and periodically charging machine gun nests with bayonets, do you think that the hostile governments would have found enough volunteers to stack them like cordwood from the Alps to the ocean? Not bloody likely.

Would it be fair this time? Would person A in Compton, CA be exactly as likely to serve as Person B in Beverly Hills?
Don't think anyone would risk the political suicide of voting for a draft. Maybe we should just fight the wars we can with what we have for now.

The Draft is a blatant violation of the 14th amendment to the USA Bill of Rights of the USA Constitution. But the media has to "scam" us with their rhetoric.

I think the draft should not be re-instituted. So does the US military, the US Congress and the general population of the US.
You should find something else to worry over.
