You open a claim for what is called a benifit year. You will recieve the unemployment monies for 26 weeks. However, if you work part time, or earn a small amount of money doing odds n ends for people (any income you make during the week that is less than the unemployement benifit amt), that amount will be subtracted from the money the govt will send you (you must claim any earnings).
Thus, the unemployment total amount could last longer than 26 weeks, if you don't drawl the max allotted to you every week.

It depends on how fast they pay you out. I think in California, you can get it for a year as long as the money is there and show you are looking for work.

Pretty sure it`s three months. We used to get extentions here in Mi. but they stopped that.
