Except a motorcycle's muffler doesn't have that second pipe (outlet). A motorcycle's exhaust pipe goes into the muffler and straight out the rear.

Most of these answers are talking about a core baffle which are not quiet. The guy who has the link to how stuff works, shows something more like a stock exhaust ie: quiet. The stock exhaust does not have a straight thru design, it has to go back and forth thru chambers. These tend to be a little restrictive and heavy, but they are quiet.

it looks like a screen with heat resistant cloth wraped around it. keeping the noise donwn. if you take this out you will gain a few h.p. but it will anoyeing your neighbors
