The fact that most of my generation hasn't finished high school and spends all day sitting around on Myspace smoking Newports in some overpopulated crappy apartment because they don't have a friggin' job couldn't possibly add to our decline. (Note the sarcasm).

It's ridiculous that students don't have to finish high school, and have no real obligation to get their crap together and contribute to society. I'm embarrassed of my generation.

But the greatest outrage of America currently is that liquor stores close BEFORE 8pm ON SUNDAYS!!! What the hell. I would like to think that in America I could get my favorite bargain-bin vodka at 10pm on a Sunday night before Adult Swim starts. Psshh. I bet Mexico has 24-hour liquor stores. I'm moving there. You can come, too.

We have social decline for sure but economical decline is not proved by the numbers. Life has never been better economically at my house. Yes the freedom given by parents who want to be friends or feel guilty working or whatever their reasons for allowing children adult freedoms. We got cars when we earned them for ourselves, we keep our grades at excellent levels or stayed home, if we talked back to adults we did not need to explain because my parents did not care why & we were punished, we showed respect for our President & country & knew how lucky we were to be American, we worked hard & had few gadgets. I grew up watching less than 6-8 hrs a week of TV & half of that was news.
We prayed for our leaders & the military every night. We were free to do what our parents told us to do. We became responsible adults who love being American & realize we owe our great country, it does not owe us anything but our freedom. My friends I grew up to be law abiding, voting, patriotic citizens. Our children have grown up the same way. I am 51 yrs old & proud to be an American. My freedom ends when I break the law.
I feel honored to cast my vote & have never missed an election. Drugs are not a part of my life & cellphones are answered until the person speaking to me is finished. The lack of manners do count for part of the social decline. Too much freedom too young is the main cause of social decline. The "I am owed something society" will crash eventually.

Not at all. In fact, I'm fairly certain that said decline has been most measurable since the beginning of this century. I firmly believe that once we've expelled certain freedom trampling officials from office, we'll experience another turn around away from that economical and social decline, similar to our prosperity at the end of the 20th century. The problem isn't that we have too much freedom, it's that our leaders are taking more freedom than they have.

Definitely.

It seems the individual has more rights than a group.
The value of freedom has been stretched to the breaking point.
It should never be taken away, however it should be valued rather than abused as a crutch.
In that I means that burning the flag or derogatory remarks or something that harms others should not be considered rights.

Don't you pay taxes, work all the time and obey about a million laws? You can kiss that freedom goodbye when you leave school; and even school's not optional!

well, its that we have such a sense of entitlement.....the sky is falling down around us and all we worry is, that the cable is out, the cell, don't work...and I cant get my nails done...everyone should just spend all little time abroad....and see how good we got it...but I also must mention...no other nation works like we do...in other countries no one make overtime, working 60-80 hours a week like we do....

Sounds like you are having problems with your personal freedom?

No, we do not, and as far as I can tell, cannot. Atleast not in this lifetime. LOL The social decline has nothing to do with it at this point.

Sadly, I think yes. By not censoring obscene materials on the internet, TV and commercials, we have taught our children to be immoral.

may be. People generally do take their freedoms for granted.
