I like them both. Make meatballs for the spaghetti tonight and make Italian sausage for the leftover spaghetti tomorrow. Yum!

I prefer cooked ground beef, but out of the two choices, I'd take meatballs. A half and half of cooked beef and cooked mild sausage is also good.

i like to put fennel seeds in hamburger, it makes the meat taste like sausage-really good sausage-in fact you will have the hardest time convincing people its NOT sausage. one person argued with me about it until I physically showed her the next time i made it-she would not beleive me that it was hamburger with fennel seeds. i will never forget that. it was one of my mothers cooking secrets-i always thought she made speghetti with sausage growing up, i didnt find out until i moved out- try it out- just add the seeds in when you are cooking the hamburger-not too early because the seeds will burn-you want there to be some juices in the meat so the flavor passes around. i like really lean hamburger meat (93% lean) this makes it a bit harder to get the sausage flavor something between 80% and 90% lean should do the trick

Kinda depends on your appetite and your palate appeal,, meatballs, good but ordinary and sorta bland,,,, Italian sausage on the other hand, zesty and flavorful, and your choice of mild sausage or zesty spicy sausage... bon appetite' :)

Meatballs. You can get a lean meat and regulate fat content a lot easier.
Italian sausage has way too much grease and fat in it.
