They lost three dogs...they were killed in the fire and the house burnt down...we are trying to help in any way we can. do you have any ideas to share?

First of all invite them to stay with you if you have the room. The
Salvation Army will help with clothing, as I presume there that there is just one homeless. Are you married? Does she have Children? Does she have a job. Did her car make it through the fire. If you have the resourses help her out. Money means nothing to me. If I can afford to pay my bills I am happy. Can she wear your clothes until she can get things in order? What else can I say?

Bring them simple things. A cooked meal. Clothing. And a shoulder to cry on.
Always listen. Don't say "i know...." Cause you don't.
The gift of Annonymous money would be a great thing. Sorry, but nothing will bring the family pets back.
