I thought Austin was a nice city. They have an interesting Congress building and this cool street that they close down at night for all they barhoppers. They also have a nice river you can rent canoes on.

New Braunfels, 30 miles north of San Antonio, is interesting. Austin, the state capital, has some cool sights, including the Capitol, and 6th Street. Waco is home to the Texas Ranger Museum and the Dr. Pepper Museum. There are lots of factory outlet shops in San Marcos and in Hillsboro.
See link for the official Texas tourism website.

There is a Ranger Museum in Waco. It is easy to find, right off I-35. Temple have a few spots also but they are mostly in town. There is the railroad and heritage museum and a lot more museums in between the distance, cultural activities center (off the highway), has a lot of musical plays. And oh, course there's FT Hood, where there are monuments dedicated to fallen soldiers and more museums. There are outlets, San Marcos, and one outside Dallas. Oh a new one just opened in Round Rock.
