Whenever I empty my bathroom sink of water, it comes back up the bath - does drain away though.

Water drains away quite quickly - have used bleach and other products to unclog

Why do you think its doing this? What can I do to make it better without spending a fortune??

Best answer gets the points!!

the line is clogged beyond the tub. water runs into the area that's not clogged and fills it up then it starts to go into the tub cuz its lower. You need to snake the line from the sink down because thats easier than thru the tub.

Frist off has it ever ran right?

If it has then the first and second answers seem appropriate enough to start with. If they don't work then look at your vent pipe that is suppose to protrude thru the roof in that area and look for a blockage. Yeah you'll have to get on the roof for this one with a good flash light. best done in the evening or after dark.

If it hasn't then look to see if the line is vented. It should be but I've seen some that weren't. If it's not then the only way to make it right is by calling in someone to correct it.

PS.
If the first answers won't correct the problem it may be a collapsed line and no matter what you put down the drain is going to fix that

buy a can of lye, either red devil or Gillette, and pour half of it down the sink followed by a few cups of water, let it sit for about an hour, then turn the taps on full for a few minutes. Your drain should be completely cleaned out and flow properly. If it still backs up into the tub, its not a clog, its a plumbing problem and you will have to call a plumber.

Try filling the tub with a couple of inches of water and then put a stopper in the sink and its over flow hole. Then plunge the crap out of it. If you don't plug the sink, the water that you plunge will take the path of least resistance through the sink. Filling the tub with water then plunging will force water pressure, not air through the drain line. If this fails, look at the other answers, they are good to. Good luck

You have a clog (probably something like hair) in the drain pipe after the traps on your sink and tub. You can try to use a gel type cleaner, but I have found these to be only moderately effective at best. You can try to snake the drain line, going in through your vant on the roof, but this is messy. You may want to consider hiring a company like roto rooter to clean it for you.
