5 minutes. If you don't want skin cancer, don't lay out in a bathing suit just to get that golden sheen.

Not At ALL!!! My parents' generation was back when they didn't know that tanning was bad for you...and my mom used to tell me stories about how she and her friends (as teenagers) would lay out in the sun covered in baby oil, with mirrors to make the rays stronger. And guess what? They have spots all over their body, and also can have more wrinkly skin than is normal for their age. Skin cancer can get through fair skin in 10 minutes on a strong day...if you're going outside for a minute to get the paper and stuff like that, that's OK, but not longer than 5 minutes. There are new non-greasy formulas of sunscreen (especially for faces) that feel like you're not wearing sunscreen. Moisturize your face (and body if you're going outside) daily with at least SPF 20 sunscreen. Remember, in the winter sunscreen is necessary too...the sun reflects brightly off the white snow and can burn your face. Bottom line is: stay out of the sun if you don't have sunscreen on, and when you do, reapply every 2 hours or when you towel off, and stay out no longer than a total of about 6 hours. Even that is a long day at the beach that shouldn't happen often.

If you are exposing yourself to the sun without sunscreen and you are fair skinned you are putting yourself at risk for skin cancer. Even putting on sunblock you still get a tan. Plus if you are fair skinned you don't tan until after you burn so what was the point of tanning. I suggest you get a mystic tan at first it is a light tan but darkens after a day. Use sunblock when going out into the sun and moisturize really well at bedtime to really make the color last.

With the rate of skin cancer 7 have worked in many a tanning salons, it-is never a good idea to be without sun protection. It could be a cloudy day and the UV rays will still cause irreparable damage to ones skin.I am a cosmetician/Beauty therapist with olive skin & have advised all clients to wear protection even when tanning on a bed for 15 minute sessions. Your skin will love you, for protecting it' as you age as well. The ageing process is quickened without any protection, stay looking younger for longer.

I have very light skin. I don't stay out more than 10 minutes without having a hat on or sunscreen. Cancer is more recurrent in light skinned people.

Do not go outside without sunscreen but use a tanning bed and follow the rules about how long to stay in there. Any good place will fill you in on everything you need to know.

DONT KNOW EXACTLY....EVERYONE IS IN SUNSHINE FOR 5 OR 10 MINUTES INADVERTANTLY DURING DAYTIME.....BUT AS FOR BATHING IN IT....DONT DO IT WITHOUT TANNING CREAM OR OIL WITH A HIGH SPF....LIKE YOUR MOM I DID....EVERYONE WANTED A TAN....THE FIRST THING THE PHYSICIAN SAYS WHEN I GO IS.....YOU HAVE AN AWFUL LOT OF SUN DAMAGE.....IT BREAKS UP THE COLLAGEN NETWORK AND ITS CUMULATIVE....EACH TIME YOU ARE IN THE TANNING BOOTH OR SUNSHINE YOU GET MORE DAMAGE..... LOVE THE SKIN YOURE IN ....THATS ALL.
