Spend $1900 on a program? I think not! On my computer I set up a seeding schedule database. In it I included date, germ. temp., number seeded, % germination, number transplanted, initials of transplanter, in other words, all the data I needed to track production and sales. At the end of the season - or at any time, really - I could count the number of packs left to know how much was sold, whether I sold out early, and so on. Keeping careful records is the secret to good management and inventory control.

First you have to figure out the average turnover per week of every item, then order that much plus 1 every week, always round down when it comes to parts of groups. If you sell half a flat of petunias weekly, then order 1 flat. if you sell 3 full flats, order 4 since you are counting on sales increasing. If you find you have too much of one item, mark the price down to half way between what your cost and what you normally charge. People almost always will buy something if it is on sale.If you sell outsompletely in one item, order 1 1/2 the amount. if you are starting seedlings, you replace what you sell again, adding 1 or 2 counting on sales increasing. It will only take a few weeks of monitoring to figure out the system.
