Excellent character development of Snape. Wavering between the two forces. I'm still in the valley of decision about him. But if I had to choose I think he's good.

He's bad. The impression that Rowling gives on final book seven is that there is more death to come, and so there is little to be gained by Dumbledore returning or Snape being good. Dumbledore will exist as a speaking painting, don't forget.
Also, read on some official site that it's pretty probable that release is this time next year. Although considering how many loose ends need to be tied, don't hold your breath!

I don't really know.Snape's character is really a dielemma.
Some things really make me think Snape is evil like the things he does to Harry, telling Voldemort about Harry's parents and also killing Dumbledore. But we can't be sure whether Snape is really evil. Or maybe it might be a "fool everybody" plan and that Snape's good. But knowing jk you can't take anything for granted. She makes our lives so complicated by leaving her story in a tangle and we try to untangle it WITHOUT SUCCESS. Who thought that Dumbledore would be killed thaht too by Snape?????? What's in the 7th book and its outcome can hardly be guessed. Mugglenet and many other fan sites reckon the book's going to be released on the 7th of july , 2007.

i dunno.. i don't trust snape. i think dumbeldore HAS been wrong in the past in his judgements...for example, hiding things from Harry, forcing Sirius to stay hidden, etc etc. the older he got, the harder it was for him to convey his true intentions...and he got sicker and sicker in #6 so quickly, that no one would be able to tell what was going thru his mind. perhaps he DID make a pact w/ snape to kill him, but what if snape did that to trick Everyone, including dumbeldore, when he really wanted to have the glory back with voldemort? it's possible he is that evil. on the other hand, it is possible that he can turn good.
my sense is that snape is completely conflicted; he's going thru the motions as planned, and killing dumbledore as planned, and yet something is changing inside of him. i think snape is going to be quite like Darth Vader, in that the whole time he was bad, there were little things that chipped away at him until he will turn good at the end, even sacrificing his life. but that could still mean he killed D cuz he Wanted to, not just cuz he Had to.

He is the most controversial character in Harry Potter, because everthing he does is so confusing. From Harry's perspective he's evil, but from Dumbledore's he is good. Dumbledore always said he trusted him, and Dumbledore must know what he says, after all, he's Dumbledore. Snape is not evil, but he's probably the most important character after Harry, because JK has always tried to confuse us about him, and in book 7 she will tie up the loose ends and we will discover that Snape was deeply involved throughout all the series.

I definately think that there's more to it than just Snape killing Dumbledore, just because he had to. I mean the whole idea of Dumbledone saying 'Snape, please' doesn't make sense that he was begging for his life. Dumbledore showed in the 1st book, that he was not scared of death when he told Harry, 'Death is but the next great adventure', so it would make sense that Snape killed Dumbledore, because Dumbledore wanted him to. Therefore, if Snape was with Dumbledore all along, he can't have been in it with Voldemort.

I agree completely. Him and Dumbledore set it up and planned it. I do not believe that snape is evil and to tell you the truth i never really have. I know he is a good guy, Dumbledore knows that and he is always right. :)

Snape did NOT make an unbreakable vow to kill Dumbledore, if Draco couldn't do it. Read it again. He made a vow to kill the HEADMASTER. What if the Headmaster had taken Polyjuice Potion to LOOK like Dumbledore?
What I don't understand is how long does an Unbreakable Vow last? I mean, let's say Snape made an Unbreakable Vow to kill the headmaster, how long does he have to do it? And what if he tries, but it don't work? Who makes these decisions?
