The doctors will stabilize her blood pressure and that will help a lot. To be considered for the transplant wait list (which come from cadavers) the patient has to be on dialysis (and she will qualify for Medicare coverage.) To get a kidney from a living donor she needs to get the word out to family and friends that she's looking, and the transplant coordinator will handle the evaluation of potential donors at her hospital. My daughter has been waiting nearly 3 years on dialysis, we have had 7 people tested but none have worked out. Here's her story if you are interested. http://www.xanga.com/i_korn - good luck to your friend.

You won't find a kidney for her, so leave that to the transplant team. You need to be there to support her, allow her to be angry, tired, happy, whatever she feels. Stay positive for her, but don't try to be too happy all the time- follow her lead. Good luck to her, hope you cope OK, enjoy your friendship in sickness and in health.
