Feng Shui is another yuppy thing that people do to make themselves seem more cultured than others.
Feng shui (pronounced "fung shway") is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. The literal translation is "wind and water". It's supposed to be an exact science which is a joke.
Showtime and Penn and Teller did a special on Feng Shui and they took 3 Feng Shui experts to arrange a large home into a harmoneous living space.
One of the answers says it's not a decorative style and that's only partially correct. People pay thousands of dollars to Feng Shui their homes to bring peace and harmony to it.
Anyway on the Showtime show, 3 of these "experts" were paid thousands of dollars to Feng Shui the home. Remember it's supposed to be an exact science and the positions of the beds, couches, dinner table, etc... are supposed to be in an exact space. Well, all 3 of them contradicted eachother, and one asain "expert" was so mixed up forgetting what he said that in a hidden microphone he said, this place looks like ****! When the owner came in he said the house is now amazingly tranquil.
Feng Shui is ridiculous. There's now Feng Shui dating websites that charge a lot of money. People get uppity and think they're cultured but it's just another scam.
P.T. Barnum was right. A sucker is born every minute.

feng shui is often used as a term that describes the arrangement of objects and colors in a room. In order for the you to have a less chaotic and more relaxed way of being. the websites below describes it better than I could, but the first website describes how feng shui was one thing and converted into another with the help of western culture.

Feng Shui (pronounced feng shway) is a belief, imported from China, that deals with lines of force. It's very complicated, but briefly, it helps you arrange your home so that the 'good'
forces are allowed in and the 'bad' forces are kept out. People who are followers of this belief have adepts, or professionals, who will help them plan new homes or make alterations to existing homes to bring about the best possible result, providing a serene, warm and loving home life.
This is very simplified, but there are some interesting books on the subject at the library, if you are interested.

Feng shui (pronounced "fung shway") is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. The literal translation is "wind and water".
Feng shui is not a decorating style. Rather, it is a discipline whose guidelines are compatible with many different decorating styles.
The source of the term is purported to come from the poem "The winds are wild/The sun is warm/The water is clear/The trees are lush".
Feng shui is a discrete Chinese belief system involving a mix of geographical, religious, philosophical, mathematical, aesthetic, and astrological ideas.
For a place to have "good feng shui" is for it to be in harmony with Nature, to have "bad feng shui" is to be incongruous with Nature. People aren't usually described as having good or bad feng shui.

Feng shui is an ancient science like Masonry. The first masons
being actual engineers that knew how shapes enhance spiritual,
(invisible), forces.
Like arches in churches. Or round houses today. The thinking is that square shapes block the flow of these magnetic type
forces, and create ill health in humans.

its chinese. it means like the environment of somewhere and how lucky it is or not. like maybe if you were really superstitious you would find some expert to tell u the feng shui of your house, and if it was bad or good. Bad feng shui would be for example living at a t-shaped intersection, having a asymetrical roof..etc.

fengshui is a compilation of theories, each with its own system and calculations. these are formulated to optimize one's health or wealth. it is also used to enhance one's fortune, and also to predict the future.
they were first formulated for the chinese farmers to optimize crops. then later tweaked to enhance military tactics of chinese military. the art of war by sun tzu consists of 2 parts, the one printed in english, and the other part, not known to most people, which contains the fengshui theories to win a war. today, fengshui is tweaked again by living masters for us to cope up with everyday life, and have a better life.
it is not a religion, where you need to believe and faith for it to work.
it is somewhat like a philosophy in life that taoists have incorporated most theories in their belief.
it can be practiced as a hobby. you just need to apply the theories and basically forget them. most theories just takes about 3 months at most to take effect.
most books published especially those in english are either fakes or just write about less than 1% of the theory. it is still best to look for fengshui master who will teach you to learn the stuff. and remember, expensive seminars does not always mean more info. and a fengshui master is a master because of his experiences in fengshui, not because of his lineage/ decent.
