Because a lot of people see it as a destination. You have to realize that it is just another step in the journey of life. You have to remember to not take anyone or anything that you love for granted and put the effort in every day, not just in the beginning. Lust is great but will only keep a relationship going so long. After that, you have to put in the work and be willing to compromise if you want to have life long happiness. Anything worth having is worth working for!

Question should read 'why do SOME people ...'
Simple. Before marriage, you still have all your hopes and dreams for your life together intact. Talk is cheap.
After marriage, it's logical that you have to begin to work towards achieving these same dreams. Which may involve communication, compromise of personal interest for the common interest, planning, hard work, even say, some initial individual sacrifice like hobby time, or the delaying of worldly gratifications like holidays/new cars etc. Sadly, some people are simply too lazy, and then can't be bothered to keep up the show. So don't. Not so exciting huh?

Because before marriage it is like something you have never done. You haven't had all the experiences of marriage. But after a while, I mean getting excited about marriage is like getting excited about washing your hair. Its like routine, same old, same old. But some people do stay in love for a long time. Have you ever heard the term "the new"? People say that the new wears off and you don't have the feelings that you once had for each other. All those exciting feelings loose their spark after a while and you have to spice it up. And even that gets old. Sometimes you just have to move on. Hope that your marriage is a good one. Lots of luck Gorgeous!

From early childhood little girls are told stories about princesses in towers being rescued by the prince who solves all their problems. In the stories all attention is focused on the passive princess whose only role is to be physically beautiful. I think girls take in the hidden messages in these stories and so set themselves up for failure. When they reach adulthood, they dream of the fairytale wedding and focus on details which in themselves are unimportant - the colour of the bridesmaids' shoes, whether the groom should wear a tie or cravat, what kind of headdress to wear. A wedding, which lasts only one day, is not that important compared to the marriage itself which is meant to last a lifetime. The wedding should be about the man the girl is marrying. She should focus on him and think about what their life together will be like. Marriage will not change him and babies most definitely will not make him any better than he already is, so if there are problems in the relationship, she should end it while she can, or at least make NO plans for a wedding until she can honestly say that those problems are resolved.

Too many people put the emphasis on the "big day" and not on the fact that the wedding is just the start of the beautiful journey together between two people. I intend to have a modest wedding to celebrate the start of my married life and not let anyone get carried away with it all, its pointless and leads to too much heartache when the honeymoon is over and life gets back to normal
