All the reasons given so far are correct. There is another reason that I boo him. Right after he signed the HUGE contract with the Texas Ranger he did an interview for Sports Illustrated. The interviewer asked A-Rod how he thoght he compared to Derek Jeter. A-Rod's answer was that Jeter didn't have to play with the pressure of carrying the whole team on his back.
This may be true. But I think A-Rod is finding out about a different type of pressure that Jeter has been able to handle much easier.
Yankee fans have always been tough on guys that can't perform in the playoffs. Years after Reggie Jackson earned the nickname "Mr. October", Steinbrenner gave Dave Winfield "Mr. May" for his inability to perform when it really counted.
It mostly comes down to what happened in 2004. The Yankees were in control of the division late in the year. Everyone remembers A-Rod and V-Tek fighting. Many believe that was the exact turnaround point for The Red Sox. After the fight, the Sox made a dramatic comeback to beat Mo Rivera. Sox confidence built up even more after they won a couple of games in that infamous playoff series, in which A-Rod's bat was a non-factor. Yankee fans can't get the image out of their heads of A-Rod slapping the ball away from Bronson Arroyo either.
To some it up, I'd say it's a combination of the stupid things that A-Rod says and fans blame him for letting the Red Sox comeback and beat the Yankees in the Biggest Choke in Sports History.

I'm a huge Yankee fan, but haven't liked A-Rod since the Sports Illustrated article and have never wanted him to come to the Yankees. I kinda get some satisfaction seeing Jeter thrive and A-Rod falter. I just wish they could find a way to get rid of him now.

Not being in New York, I can't answer this with 100% accuracy, but part of it comes with the mystique and tradition of the New York Yankees. The team won four straight championships with the likes of Derek Jeter and Paul O'Neill, and many of the players who have joined the team are seen as carpetbaggers, latching on to the team to bask in reflected glory. As my Yankee fan co-workers say, "Just because you're ON the Yankees, doesn't mean you ARE a Yankee."

A-Rod is viewed as the Peyton Manning of baseball -- a guy who puts up great numbers but fails in the clutch. He has been called "the most dangerous hitter in baseball... when the Yankees are up by five runs." Think about some of the guys from that recent Yankees title run: O'Neill, Scott Brosius... they were guys who weren't necessarily superstar players, but always seemed to perform in the clutch. Until A-Rod does it, he'll never be accepted by the fans.

It certainly doesn't help that he's being paid $25 million a year, or that every time he opens his mouth, he says the wrong thing.

Quick v2 and jon are morons. Yankee fans love every single player on that team as long as they do something. Look at Jeter. They love him even if he goes 1-5 because that one hit probably did something. Jason Giambi is a free-swinger and gets his share of strike-outs, but with 35+ homers and 100+ RBIs, you can't boo him. Same with Bob Abreu and Cano and Posada. They all do their share. But its a different story with A-Rod. He presses so much, he fails every single time he goes up to the plate. He had 3 consecutive games where he had 3 or more strikeouts. Every time he comes up with runners in scoring position, he does not get the job done. Us fans boo him because of the money. We expect that if you are getting paid $25 million, you should not have the most errors at your position, you should not be setting career highs for strikeouts, and you should not be unable to come through in the clutch. If he was on any other team that was continually winning the division and had a heated rivalry, they would probably be doing the same thing.

Because he has been just PITIFUL at the plate the past two and a half months! Not only is he striking out, but he is striking out in big situations. He is swinging at pitches over his head, swinging at pitches around his ankles, and taking pitches that are right across the plate. He also is at or near the top of the league in grounding into double plays, he's just a rally-killer this year. Also, he has regressed at third base, really struggling. He was great last year, but this year, it seems that every error he makes leads to two runs or more, some big innings. Last year it was like "A-Rod is going to hit one out". This year it 's like "OH, here comes A-Rod to whiff again!". As a Yankee fan, I'd now rather have young guys like Cano or Cabrera coming up in a big spot instead of A-Rod. Any player would be booed if they were playing as badly as A-Rod, but when you also consider that he is making around $25 million a year, there are higher expectations for him.

Arod is getting booed because fans expect him to be the best player in the league because of his salary. Also, being from New York, Yankees fans are by far the most demanding group of fans in the world.

First off, he is in New York....which is a tough place to play in, even when you are doing good. Secondly, his defense has gotten worse. Not too mention he has been striking out at an alarming rate, recently. Those are all grounds for being booed by most fans. Then add the fact that he is the highest paid player in baseball (automatic booing included on road trips (tripled in Seattle)). Factor in his "PC" answers , and "what did I do wrong" attitude. He comes across as someone who is insincere.
Bottom line is, he is being booed for being ARod. The highest paid player in baseball who is percieved to be under performing by the local fans.

It's because they expect him to be better than the best player in the league. What they have seemed to have forgotten is that he IS the best player in the league. He is trying so hard to be better than the best that he's started to slump a bit. Any yankee fan that boo's A-Rod is a idiot. I don't care if he has a 250 million dollar contract or if he is not having another MVP season like he did last year (do you booing fans remember that?) or whatever else there is no reason to boo him

there are 2 reasons for this 1. yankee fans are the most arrogant in the world and want him to go 4 for 4 with 3 homers every night insted of get 25 this year so far with more errors than normal. and 2 he is over paid so there also jelious that he is more talented and richer than they will ever be

Arod is simply in a slump right now. Every single player in baseball will go through at least one slump during the season. The thing that sucks is he's a Yankee. And since Yankee fans absolutely SUCK, they will boo anyone on their own team that goes through a slump.
