Republicans', how do you propose paying for our federal deficit?

The Republican's motto is small government and balance budget as well as a small federal deficit. The current deficit is Huge, it's Real and somewhere along the line we as a Nation are going to have to pay for it. How do you propose we do so or should we just leave it to our Children to handle our mess?

People who say the tax cuts will pay the debt are out of sync with American spending. Aside from a HUGE federal deficit, we also have a HUGE unbalaced federal budget, larger than what was originally advertised. The tax breaks are a reason why we are in the red.

I feel the government should tax the rich. I know it sounds crazy, but in comparison to a national standard, i feel there should be tax on wealth. I know a limit to personal accomplishment sounds funny, but why not tax after billions of dollars to help out other humanitarian duties of our country. We have alot of problems that effect regular citizens from jobs, drugs, crime, poverty, and most importantly lack of education. We give money to other countries all the time, dropping food after bombings, help rebuild governments, and other little money that floats around like senator salary raises and investing into lottery. If we took a small percentage from the wealthiest americans, then the deficit should decrease. I understand the deficit quantity, and it will not go away instantly. I feel if a formula or process is in place that decreases the deficit each year, then we are better off and have succeeded at eliminating it. THis has been around for a while and the last presidents have just been abusing it, especially with war. Not only will our kids have to handle the mess, but will be less resourceful as budgets currently cut educational grants, decrease employment, and spend more on war that lessens federal funding. Forget a republican or democrat, we need an family valued, economist with a degree in sociology, psychology, and political science, lol. We just been having no luck in establishing a TRUE leader for US. Can't wait to hear the other responses. Good luck and hope i answered your question.

You're right. And there are many conservatives who are saying the same thing. These Republicans are spending money like they were Democrats!! It's terrible.

The current administration is cutting taxes as a true Republican should, but at the same time its spending so out of control. Now the tax cuts have worked. The economy is growing and tax revenue is increasing, but spending is increasing even more. This administration needs to cut federal spending.

Have those people in congress take a pay cut! If they are going to get all those perks they they don't get paid by the American people! That goes for both democrats and republicans as well as indipenents..... Make every one living in this country pay taxes....no exceptions......make those counties that owe us money pay us back or cut trade with them......STOP giving money too other foreign governments ....now democrats that includes the communist countries you support.....

There are so many things that could be done too eliminate our federal deficit.... the main thing is Congress is got too stop their dumb-*** pork barrel projects.....they have too learn too balance there books and spend only what they have.... make it a law that if they don't spend only what they have in the coffer....if they go over then they get in trouble....make them pay it back too the American people our of their pockets....if the people in congress object....the military steps in and makes them pay the American people back.......They also have too cut back on some of their bullshit social programs...... They have too learn that they can not please every one all the time......They need also too simplify our tax codes....as well as adopt a flat tax were every one pays a flat 15% tax!

Maybe the same way FDR paid for WWII? And how do you think FDR would have paid for Katrina? How do YOU handle back to back catastrophes? Oh yeah, you reach for a handout.

What about the next generation? Right out of college I made a little over two bucks an hour and my neighbors thought I was rolling in dough. Now some graduates pull $100,000 a year. LET the children pick up some of the tab for their freedom, just like their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents did.

my proposal,which will upset you liberals,is to just have everybody on welfare excempt are season citizens,who have already contributed to the system, and,the truly handicapped,made to go to work like i do ,if you need help that is fine,you will be helped with food or medical care,but you will be required to work,even if it is for min,wage attend school,or preform community service,i.e.hwy clean up,park maintance,etc.etc.i do 14 hours a day working you can do eight hours a day working,for the assets the tax paying American public gives you.and thus millions of dollars will be saved to but towards the fedreal debt.

I gotta ask leogirl, where do you get your information? According to all the economists I've read, Bush's tax plan will be responsible for almost 50% of the federal deficit. And it's getting larger. I've looked at economists from both sides, and it's the same thing, though I've seen some say 60% and others say 40%. But they all say the same thing. The deficit is getting larger.

The deficit will never be paid, because it's too high, and there is no other country strong enough to enforce collection.

So, either a future Congress will just write it off, or it will hang around until something happens that causes America to collapse, and then we declare bankruptcy?
