Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera. Sometimes it is said that Hera alone produced him and that he has no father. He is the only god to be physically ugly. He is also lame. Accounts as to how he became lame vary. Some say that Hera, upset by having an ugly child, flung him from Mount Olympus into the sea, breaking his legs. Others that he took Hera's side in an argument with Zeus and Zeus flung him off Mount Olympus. So HEPHAESTUS is the GOD OF FIRE AND THE FORGE. He is the smith and armorer of the gods. He uses a volcano as his forge. He is the patron god of both smiths and weavers. He is kind and peace loving.

Prometheus was not the God of Fire he was the son of Iapetus who was one of the Titans. He tricked the gods into eating bare bones instead of good meat. He stole the sacred fire from Zeus and the gods. Prometheus did not tell Zeus the prophecy that one of Zeus's sons will overthrow him. In punishment, Zeus commanded that Prometheus be chained for eternity in the Caucasus. There, an eagle (or a vulture) would eat his liver, and each day the liver would be renewed. So the punishment was endless, until Heracles finally killed the bird. Prometheus is known to be only a most interesting characters in Greek Mythology and never as God of Fire.

Prometheus was definitely a titan and not a god. His original task was to mould mortals out of mud, before going on to steal fire from Zeus..

Hephaestus was a fire god, but more specifically a god of natural fires, such as volcanoes. Having been cast out of heaven by his mother Hera for being born so ugly, he became a craftsmen who created hammers and anvils to drive off the earthbound giants as well as forging Zeus' thunderbolts.

Hephaestus, definitely. Remember--Prometheus wasn't a god, and he was chained to a rock, letting vultures eat out his liver every day and letting it grow back every night, because he stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans.

Hephaestus, as he was the god of fire and metalworking, whereas Prometheus was nly a titan who gave fire to Humans, you cannot be the god of fire if you are not a god!
