Any number of things.
1. Revenge for Pearl Harbor
2. Germany surrendered before the A-Bomb was built.
3. Estimates were of more than 1,000,000 Allied casualties if we invaded Japan.
4. A lesson to the Russians (even in 1945 we didn't quite trust them)
Even if ALL of the above were factors, #3 alone was justification for using the bomb. I might have picked different targets, but I can't fault its use.

The war in Europe ended in the spring of 1945. The A bomb was developed in the summer. It was used against Japan in the fall. The idea was to end the war as soon as possible. When your fighting for your life you use what you have. Don't you think that the Japanese would have used the bomb against us if they had it? It was terrible. But so was the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor and the Philippines, the "Rape of Nanking", the Bataan Death March, etc. Also the fire bombing of Dresden where about 70,000 people perished. And the fire bombing of Tokyo. I do wish we hadn't dropped the second one however.

Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 destroying US Navy ships and killing over 2000 people. We declared war on Japan, so we brought the war to Japan by bombing their cities. The Nazis of Germany killed 6 million Jews and other people by building concenstration camps with poison gas apparatus and crematories to burn the bodies.

We were going to invade Japan and a huge number of casualties were expected. Our president made the decision to drop the bombs on Japan so it would end the war and bring about Japan's surrender quickly. Japan was given the option to surrender before the bombs were dropped but they never knew of the bombs (they were a closely guarded secret.)
I've read that they were going to attack Japan's capitol but due to weather they couldn't. Hiroshima was a large city w/lotsa military targets and surrounded by hills. An excellent place to "test" the bomb.
The second bomb was dropped because Japan would not surrender. The government stalled with a reply and so...sadly another city was bombed.

Germany had already surrender, and the Japanese had a tradition of fighting to the last man. The atomic bomb was dropped to show them that there was no chance for them to win due to the technological advances of the west. If the bomb was not dropped, there would have been many more lives lost than the ones in Japan. I know you are hinting a racism, that might have been a factor, but it was not the main factor.

germany was done and over with. hitler killed himself (supposedly) and the European conflict was done. the bombing of japan was a couple of things actually. people were tired of the war, they wanted it over quickly. the tactics the japanese were using were demoralizing and effective, to a certain point. the war could've gone on much longer while still holding an Allied victory. but this would've meant thousands, even hundreds of thousands more dead as a result. This nuclear bomb was the quick and easy way to end the way once and for all. it's price was devastating and still haunts us today but at the time, it was deemed the most reasonable way to quickly end the war, which it ultimately did.

It seems as what was a part of life to me is only ancient history to you. If you really want to know the whole story or WWII, go to wikipedia.com.
And surprise, WWII did not start on December 7, 1941 when the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, but on September 30, 1939, when Germany, under the leadership of Adoph Hitler invaded Poland. However you should already read on the events leading up to that invasion.

Both Germany and Japan were bombed incessantly. The allies fire bombed a city in Germany that killed allot of people. I think it was Dresden but might have been Koln? US dropped atomic bombs on Japan because they were ready then. The Atomic bombs were not ready for deployment till after Germany had already surrendered. Germany surrendered before Japan did. Also, we had allied troops on the ground in Germany, dropping an atomic bomb on germany might have hurt allied troops.
