Many parents didn't want children ... they just happened. May after it happens to them they want you to drink the cool aid and join the club.

No you are not the only one who feels the way you do. I have a very good friend that has never wanted children and has found life plenty fulfilling. You need to life your life the way you want. People are always going to have an opinion like it or not.

For centuries the value of a woman has been placed on her ability to have children. A man with lots of children was looked upon as being more affluent then someone with less children. Society teaches women from when they are very young that their goal is to grow up, get married and have children.
I honestly think that you are behaving responsibly by being sterilized if you truly dont want to have children. There are so many children who are born to parents who dont want them and it ends up hurting the children in the long run. Id much rather see someone who was mature enough to make such a decision then to have someone having a child that they dont want.
Anyone who has had kids and who is honest is going to tell you that the way to fulfillment is NOT through having kids. My husband and I made the decision to not have kids. Neither one of us wanted them. Im proud to say that children dont define who we are, and we arent trying to make babies in order to fulfill some void we have in our life. We dont have any kids together and we're happy with that~!
Remember its no one elses business but yours!

If you feel that strongly, then no you shouldn't have children. But don't you think sterilization is a little extreme? I think it's about more than fulfillment- it's a natural function of getting our genes out there in the world. I personally do find it hard to hear anyone say that they never want children, but it is not my place to judge.

Don't listen to these idiots who are saying you are the only one on were who feels that way.
I never plan to have children either because in my eyes society sees women as nothing but incubators. I've thought of getting my tubes tied but thought that would be silly seeing that I am a lesbian. And guess what to all you radical religious nuts out there; if I were to get raped I'd take that emergency contraceptive pill so damn fast that the sperm wouldn't have even met the egg yet.
I'm just fine without kids in my life and in fact I think I'd be a nervous wreck if I were to have any.

I was adopted and I don't want to have children . I've never wanted any. I don't want to be my biological mother and one day ditch my child. I don't want to have children that I have to be something around them that I'm not. I've been in love a few times and I've never once thought of haveing kids with any of them. I don't want to give a child a life that I would'nt want to live. And the anger that I showtowards mothers that ditched there kids made me not want to have children. I'm not her. But I'd rather be safe than sorry Good for you

Though I don't understand your not wanting children, I certainly respect what you are doing and why! People can say what they want but some women are do not have that maternal desires and there are plenty of men who want a women who feels this way. I see nothing wrong and I respect the way you feel. However I can't imagine my life without my children and I think that's why many women don't understand

You are not the only one who feels this way. I have children but I can appreciate your being honest and for taking the steps to make sure thare are no "accidents" in your life. I would rather have a friend who doesn't want or have kids than one who has a kid and treats it like crap because it wasn't wanted.

No you are not. You are a part of a growing population of youngsters who don't want to have kids. You have made the right choice your yourself, don't bother about others' opinion. When/if you have kids and run into fincancial trouble will these people help out? Will they give you money to feed your kids? If you don't have the time to care for them will these people babysit for you for free? I don't think so. So tell them to shut up.

I would rather see more women like you who prevent unwanted pregnancy's and abortions. If you feel that strongly about not wanting kids then go for it,
Lets just hope later you don't fall in love and change your mind later and want kids. But even if that happens there is always adoption.

no there are a lot of people like u. when i was younger i always thought that i wanted to have a houseful of kids. i have one kid and he requires a lot of attention and love. i could not imagine having another child and having to split the time i have with my son to share it with another child. so i think that we know what we can handle and if u think that you do not want to have children then you don't have to. there are a lot of people who feel this way.
