If you wish to get to know your mother before all the other people in your life meet her just explain you need to be alone for a few hours but leave the door open to call them if the emotions get to be to much. Meeting a birth mother is a wonderful event and needs to be treated almost like the first date jiggers. You have so much to ask yet you may feel overwhelmed in the asking
So I'm, the type that would be nervous and want someone close to me help me through the process but that person would be someone who could walk out of the room when it became a private talk of who we are .

I think you are saying you are meeting your mother for the first time. And, that your friend wants to come over. Well, doesn't it depend on what you want, not what we would do? If you would feel more comfortable having someone else there, less self-conscious, then say Yes. If you want this to be a private meeting, say No. Tell your friend that you just need this to be one-on-one and you know he/she will understand.

If you need the moral support, then yes, let them come along.. Sometimes they can help w/conversation during an awkward moment. If you are ok handling this by yourself, then tell your friend you want to do this on your own and a true friend will understand and say "call me if you need me and I'll be there".

I think that it is better to go meet your mother alone first since this is your first time meeting her then the next time you should bring your friend...

If I felt like I didn't need that friend there for support, I would tell them that I appreciate them wanting to be there for me but I really want to do this alone and will give details later.
