We do, it's part of the citizenship exam. We also have one in our public schools.

Can we force immigrants to learn out language, NO, but they would be stupid to come to our country and not know it. Would I hire anyone who didn't speak English, NO. Would I associate with anyone who didn't speak English, NO.

If you go to a person's country it is only fair that you learn some of their language. That's why the Army gives language familiarity courses to anyone who is assigned to a post in a foreign country.

I do get irritated when people start speaking another language in my own country. I don’t favor printing our documents in another language, especially important legal ones. If immigrants want to deal with our people, in our country, then should speak and read our language. They would expect if of Americans that came to their country, and they would be insulted if these Americans did not know at least a little of their language. So it is only right for me to expect the same.

If we had an Engllish test for the immigrants that have entered the USA in the last twenty-years. Spanish would not be a major subject in places like California, or the Chicken plants in Alabama. Here in Alabama the Bail Bondsman had to get a secure bus with all the "bust" that is taking place here. Most Hispanics, believe it or not are good workers. My son has hired many and they have mastered difficult jobs. But the ones that he hired are legals. What is happening to our borders is the problem, and it has to stop. But how?

There is one. It's given to professionals who want to practice in the United States. It's CGFNS. Pretty tough. Even Canadians RNs must take to practice in US. P.S. Some US native residents are less able to speak, read & write English than immigrants, so what do you propose?

You can't expect someone from a country that doesn't speak English to learn it immediately. I think it should be mandatory that the person learn enough English to communicate within 2 years of arrival.

I think we should. I'm sure there is some sort of test out there. Its sad we have to take foreign languages to cater to immigrants but they really don't have to. Hmmmm where are we again? I agree being bi or tri lingual is awesome but when someone comes into your place of business and expects you to speak to them in their foreign tongue, kind of gets you a bit angry. Especially when they roll their eyes at you and begin shooting off something you can't understand.
