I would like to know if anyone has a cure all for migraines. Not ice, not a dark room, not pain killers, just something that really really works for them? I have had one since Thursday, been treating it with a migraine med, but it won't go away. They usually only show up when I am stressed out, which I was. I am just tired of treating them the same way, cuz I get no relief. Even going to the ER to get a shot and IV fluids does not seem to help anymore. Please, don't mention doctors as well. Thanks kindly...

First, IF the presciption medication is not working, you should go back to the doctor. There are more than one medication for the headaches.

When I have a migraine it is usually a cluster of three days on and off. I find that quiet, dark and rest helps. I avoid pain killers.
I did find that putting ice pack on the back of the neck for fifteen (15) minutes helps and some times a cold pack on the forehead. My migraine is a result of a neck injury/fusion and food/environmental allergies. When I am stressed, my neck tightens and here comes the headache pain.

Stress will cause migraines to reoccur as well allergies. So you may want to look at ways to reduce the stressors you can. And, have your family doctor test you for environmental and food allergies.

You need to be properly diagnosed by a doctor. Then you need a good treatment plan. There are medications neurologists use in migraine prevention. The second level is for abortive medications you can take when you first feel a migraine attack coming on. The last step is a rescue medication. These are usually pain medications and a lot of doctors won't prescribe them. That leaves the migraineur with no choice but seek help at the ER or an urgent care facility. If you have cluster headaches then oxygen is often the best treatment. These type of headaches are more painful but they often disappear for months or years. The hospital should be your last choice. You need to get on top of this condition. Please seek the help of a neurologist or better yet, a headache specialist.

The prescription drug for migraines includes a pain killer and caffein, so if you could take a regular pain killer and wash it down with some coffee or tea maybe that would help. I had radical headaches as a kid but they went away when I started drinking coffee. Anyway, good luck!

Avoid light and sound including TVs AND computers. They are #1 triggers for me. Try to close your eyes and rest. Think of something pleasant like a favorite memory or a big dream for the future. It helps get your mind off the pain and make you realize that this is just temporary.

The only way I can treat mine is by waiting til they get to the highest point of pain and then throw up. I know it sounds gross but something about throwing up releases the tension in the head. It will still hurt for about 3-4 hours after but they go away. Just lay down and try and sleep after you throw up.

they have a new medication that's not a pain killer. i can't remember what it's called but it works wonders. you'll have to ask your doctor. it's about 40 dollars a dose but to anyone who has a full blown migrane, 40 bucks is so well worth it.
