well you can still get on the internet via cable or dsl. what you have to do though is contact a company. you have to find out who your cable company is in your area or what dsl companies are out there. you tell them you want to get their service installed and they will come out to install a modem and some cables. of course, that will cost you for the modem and then they charge you for their service each month

Not that hard to buy a PCI modem (will come with a CD for the driver) and then stick it into the computer (look for a open slot in the back)
I used to hate it when there are no modems on computers - I use mine for faxing all the time.

Buy a modem if your internet is dialup. If broadband, you need either a USB port or an ethernet connection. Either of these can be added inexpensively if the computer doesn't already have one.

If you want dialup - install a modem.
If you want dsl or cable - install a network interface card (NIC).
