I watched "Promises" last night with my teenager, and it was excellent and engaging for both of us. We also really enjoyed the ballroom dancing doc with kids. Do you know of others that have some social/political insight that are engaging for teens and adults?

Born into Brothels. It isn't what it sounds like. The kids in this documentary just happen to be the children of prostitutes in a city in India. They have no hope because of the stigma attached to their birth. A female photographer becomes a mentor and gives them point and shoot cameras and teaches them the fine art of photography. They find beauty and hope amid the squalor of their surroundings. Their spirit is undeniable and makes our troubles pale by comparison.

Personally, I like the documentary called "Incident at Oglala".

It is about an Indian named Leonard Peltier, who was charged and convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975 at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Without discussing my feelings as to if he is guilty or not, I think it is an excellent documentary that shows how the government can treat people and how the government acts when there is a lot of pressure on them to solve a crime.
