My work desided to start me at 6 AM from now on! I usually always started work at around 2-3 o'clock in the afternoon and have gotten used to that. And I usually stay up until the wee hours of the morning. But NOW I got to start getting ready for work at 4:15 AM!

How can I adjust to this time change without being useless at work because of little sleep?

It will be tough the 1st couple of days, but your body will adjust. change your diet intake as well to match your new sleep pattern. Keep your body on the new schedule on your off days as well so it becomes the new normal at least for the next few weeks.

Don't underestimate the benefit of working out/exercising. Push yourself as much as you can a couple hours before you need to hit the hay and you'll have a much easier time getting to sleep. A nice cup of coffee helps in the morning. And sometimes in the afternoon!

Also, put yourself on a schedule. Go to bed at the same time every night, no matter if you are tired or not.

Try to avoid becoming dependent upon sleep aids, it will only mess your system up in the long term.

You'll need to change your routine. Go to bed earlier- if you're getting up at 4:15 am, get to bed at say, 9:15 or 10:15 at the latest. Ideally 9:15 if you take a while to drop off. A drink like Horlicks or some other malty drink will help to send you off to sleep.

Get an extremely loud alarm clock and get up when it rings. Try to go to bed early. After the first day it will get easier because you will be so tired that you will fall asleep earlier. I've done this sort of thing with changing time zones and switching from the summer to the school schedule. It's never pretty at first.

Take two Excedrin PM's and get to bed so you will have at least 6 hours of sleep. That's what I did and adjusted quickly. Or try melatonin.
