Back in college, I remember hearing about a book that chronicles the "true" history of America, and not the glamuorized version of history... but cannot remember the name of the book. From what I understand I was written sometime between 1960-1980 (maybe later) and is very popular among intellectual college students. Can someone help me?

Your question rang a bell so I tagged it. I have some vague recall on this but can't come up with it.

*Since my college days, with the influx of sensationalized propaganda and exploitative advertising, I have become even more confused about where the line is between "true" and "glamorization".

The best reference I have for accurate American history comes from my Father. He is a realist who sits on the fence.

I'm not exactly sure if it's what you're talking about, but what you mentioned kinda sounds like A Peoples History Of The United States by Howard Zinn.

Also if you're intrested in books about the true history of American foreign policy then you should check out. Killing Hope - US Military and C.I.A. Interventions Since WW2. by William Blum, who's a former employee of the US state department.

I know of three that might be helpful. Unfortunately
I can't remember the authors' names at the moment. Two are titled Lies my teacher told me,
and Lies across America. Both are by the same
author. The other is titled Lost men of American
history.

Start with 'America, B.C.' I can't remember the author's name, but he is highly regarded in scientific circles, but has come up with a 'rogue' theory. He has written a couple of books on this theme and they are fascinating. This isn't just theory -- he backs it up with artifacts!
