It depends on why you want a new mobile number, if you want a new number because you are receiving nuisance calls – for example an ex partner bothering you, prank calls, 3rd party contacting you – then you may be able to get a number change.

Technically this is only done in rare situations such as harassment; however from time to time T-mobile will do it as a gesture to good customers. Obviously if you are constantly being suspended they are far less likely to help you out this way, but if you pay your bills on time they would more than likely do this for you if you explain the situation and ask nicely.

Simply call customer services T-mobile from your phone – Call 150 and follow the options until you get through to an agent, the options menu is long and confusing but if you choose the right options you should get through immediately. Customer Services often have a long hold-time, don't be tempted to go via top-ups to talk to an agent because you will just get through to the Registrations Team who are trained to tell you to try going through the menu again as it effects their statistics negatively if they transfer you themselves – a lot of customers do this, it is frowned upon.

Cost depends on your current price plan, if memory serves if you are on a Flext price plan it is free to call Customer Services, however for other price plans calls are charged at around 10p per minute.

Otherwise the only other option is to get yourself a new SIM card to get a new number – a small word of caution, do not buy from e-bay or cheap phone shops because more often than not they will sell you a suspended SIM card that would require you to pay £10 to T-mobile anyway. If you do get a new SIM card I would advise going to a T-mobile store and paying a £10 charge for a new SIM card, they will then register this to your account for you.

why do you want to change your number? if it is because you are receiving nuisance or prank calls just get t-mobile to block calls from private numbers or a specific number if you know it. surely that is an easier way of dealing with the problem as if you change your number you will have to let all your friends and family know and this seems like long process. Call t mobile up I'm sure they can sort it out for you.

Sorry but the only way you could change the number is to actually buy or obtain a new SIM card, at least as far as I know.

You might want to contact T-Mobile directly about this as you might be able to pay them something to have a different number, but no promises.

You could buy a new SIM card, therefore getting a new number, then give your SIM card to someone else or even sell it onto someone else and then arrange between the person that you give/sell it to & T-Mobile to have the account details changed into that persons name so that they become the owner/user of that account.

Heck if you wanted to you could just give me the SIM card.

Nice & interesting question.

:-)

You can call T-Mobile's customer support and explain to them what you want to do.

They are the only people who can change your number.

You have to buy a new contract unless theirs a proper reason for changing your number (e.g. a harassment case that the police are aware of). I.e. you have to end your current contract and sign up to a new one.
