By law, hospitals with more than certain number of beds must admit emergency patients regardless of their ability to pay. They will bill you for all the charges, but if you can't pay, then they don't get money from you (simple enough)
It just means they can't withhold care for your ability to pay.
Keep in mind though, every dollar you don't pay eventually gets into the taxes and the cost that everybody else pays. This is one of the reasons why medical costs, thus health insurance premium is out of control, and even then many smaller hospitals are closing.
If you are in serious life threatening situations, by all means, go get help. But emergency rooms are really not setup to be a community medical center.

It sounds like you are a migrant worker. We have a lot of migrant workers in our state of MN. What I would do if I were you is go the the Social Services department in the county of where you are at the moment. Explain your situation. They may be able to assist you. Some states have a state health plan, I know in Minnesota, it is MinnesotaCare.
Anyone who put you down in their answer should be completely ignored by you. It is not your fault that you cannot afford insurance. Yes, the working class does pay thru taxes, but any single one of us could be in your situation in the blink of an eye. This is the USA, anything that is available to you is something you have a right to, like the rest of us. I hope I have helped, and I hope that you get the care you need for you or your family.
One more thing, if you go to a clinic and explain your situation, you can make payments to them. As long as you are paying regularly every month, this should not be a problem, in case you need to go again to get care.

Do NOT go to the ER...if you are a tax paying citizen, it will go against you if you do not pay your bill. I highly recommend you get the recently released book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz.....she has "worked through the system" as a clinician, patient with and without insurance and one dealing with paying for surgery when she had no insurance. You will be surprised at what she found out in regard to getting "free" or discount prices on medical treatment that people don't realize are out there!!!!!! Did you know you can negotiate with your doctor? Price around for treatments, pharmacauticals etc.....The book is easy to read, has some great websites and I have saved my friends, relative, patients a ton of money by giving them the information I found in the book. I hope this helps you as much as it did for me!!!! You can even order the book for around $10 on amazon...it is about $5 cheaper than getting it at Barnes and Noble!!!

Hospitals are not aloud to turn away people in the time of an emergency. They can refuse to see you if you come in for a check up and cannot pay, but hospitals in the time of an emergency MUST allow you to see a doctor. But they will not give you drugs such as painkillers or anything. All they can do is provide you with a doctor.

Only public or state/city owned hospitals have this mandate, but then again, they only take a certain number of "pro bono" (free) cases a year. If you come in and are outside thenumber, then you're out of luck. SEasonal workers without a permanent address are out of luck entirely. You offer no work base to support the city/state/hospital.

What makes something stated as something. someone got here up with a popularity for people and now we together call ourselves people (so a ways as English is worried). How are we diverse from different issues? we seem diverse, we've diverse genes, we've diverse applications, and some would say we received the breath of existence from God. What makes us human contained in the jap way of questioning? A human that conforms to the societal norms. Even the bible says you're a beast in case you supply your self as a lot as sin.

No. Someone I know went to the ER and she got a bill for $2,000. Find a free clinic in you area. Most can treat colds, broncitis, flu, and get prescriptions filled. All services are free and donations are gladly accepted.

When you are admitted, they will ask you if you have a Primary Care Doctor. If you do, they will call that doctor in to care for you. If you have no PCP, and are in an ED the hospital HAS to take care of you and your costs will have to be absorbed by the private pay patient's. You might be eligible for Medicaid--seek help through your Welfare Dept.

Hospitals that are funded, in whole or in part, may not refuse treatment to someone based on their ability to pay. This does not mean that their services are free just that they cannot refuse you treatment because you cannot pay for the services.
This is the law.
