Congrats on both counts!
Baby is fine. The first few weeks, he or she is well-protected from any toxins, like nicotine, in your bloodstream.

Relax. You have done a wonderful thing for your baby. There are women that smoke the whole time while they are pregnant and have had healthy babies. While that is not true in many cases, you have quit soon enough to ensure that your little one will be as healthy as he or she can be. Good for you and God Bless you and baby! I also quit smoking cold turkey when I found out that I was pregnant, and I smoked a pack and a half a day! My baby was just fine. And yes, cold turkey is a fine way to quit. Each cigarette can do more potential damage, so why do it? Just get some gum and take up knitting!!!!

Sweetie don't worry yourself, nothing is wrong with your baby. Different doctors have different opinions on what smoking does to your child..But I'm pregnant with a very healthy young boy, i'm 26 weeks today, and I found out I was pregnant when I was 5 weeks, I quit smoking when I was around 2 or so months, because it was so hard, but I finally did it, my doctor told me not to quit suddenly because that could harm the baby instead of quitting it gradually..So I did what my doctor told me, and my son is fine, Good luck!

you are probably fine. the biggest problem with smoking is that is causes low birth weight. do not listen to the person above who said it is over rated. that is not true. read this and good choice on quitting!
Pregnancy:
Smoking During Pregnancy
If your health isn't enough to make you quit smoking, then the health of your baby should be. Smoking during pregnancy affects you and your baby's health before, during and after your baby is born. The nicotine (the addictive substance in cigarettes), carbon monoxide and numerous other poisons you inhale from a cigarette are carried through your bloodstream and go directly to your baby. Smoking while pregnant will:
Lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby.
Increase your baby's heart rate.
Increase the chances of miscarriage and stillbirth.
Increase the risk that your baby is born prematurely and/or born with low birth weight.
Increase your baby's risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems.
The more cigarettes you smoke per day, the greater your baby's chances of developing these and other health problems. There is no "safe" level of smoking.
and who said the baby is immune to it??? whhaaattt ???? do people even read the surgeon general's warning? do not listen to anyone who tells you it is ok to smoke. that is ridiculous. flatly untrue. your baby deserves a chance to be healthy. you are making the right decision.
and for some reason I am getting thumbs downs??? very strange, although it is probably people wanting their own answer to win. Unfortunately, some of these answers are just not correct. I am not about winning, I am about giving you the correct and best advice. gl with your pregnancy and congrats!!!

The first person knows nothing about the effects of smoking on pregnancy. Good for you for quitting. My mom smoked with all 4 of us kids and we all have ADD. Smoking has been proven to cause learning disabilities because it can cause lack of oxygen to the placenta.

Well hopefully none - however, I am not a dr. You are still very early on into your pregnancy. See your dr and start taking prenatal vitamins. And whatever you do, don't start smoking again or allow anyone else to smoke around you! Congrats and Good Luck!

None. Don't panic, it's fine. You've found out early enough and have the common sense to stop doing something that is not only bad for a baby, but also for you. Smoking has the worst effects on your baby when you're 7 months pregnant. That is when the baby's lungs start to develop. So right now, I'd say your baby is fine. Congratulations and good for you for quitting. It's tough I know, but stick with it. =)

You probably will be fine. Depending on how good you immune system is? Yet smoking does cause low birth weight as well as Asama, respiratory problems and your child will be small as they get older. Now my brothers wife smoked during her pregnancy and her son is as small as my daughter and he is older by one year. And he is on a breathing system at night. He had RSV at 6mth old. She blamed it on the world outside. But come on now it gets in the system. And too much caffeine can cause nerve damage! God bless and have fun with your pregnancy!

There might be some damage done, probably in the development area. The baby might end up having problems, but hope for the best and just continue not smoking. Eat healthy and exercise (probably just wading in a swimming pool).
