yes, depending how much practice time you're willing to put in.

get an acoustic guitar, and a battery operated tuner, and start learning chords.

after you MEMORIZE 20 chords you'll be ready for a lesson from a teacher. Do this for a couple of months and then go back to practicing what you learned from teacher, 30 minutes a day.

you'll be playing songs in about 6 months- in a year you'll be sounding good, in 5 yrs you'll be GREAT!

By listening and observing what the instrument does and by listening to music and matching sounds and learning to read music... That always helps!

Guitar magazine was the way I learned before I actually broke down and got lessons... (more to oogle at my hot guitar teacher though)

its not that hard to learn yourslef. you just have to be motivated. you can learn by ear or print out tabs from the internet. go to ur local music store and buy books or even nline resourses. i taught myself how to play and ive been in 2 differntt bands. its definatly worth a try. even if u cant do it, then u can always get lessons

ok. so i tried this and it didnt really work. if you go to a teacher they teach you the chords and its much easier to play the song. tab is also really east. my first song was marooned (or what sounded like it from about 8 miles away) so i think thas y i had to get lessons. haha. i play the violin tho so that is much easier. (that was random but whatever)

I taught myself to play by just ear and listening to chords.
However, you can buy booklets in used book stores, or music stores that can teach you.
