I am trying to install a wireless router to my laptop and the installation programme says that a firewall is preventing the installation. I have no idea how to find it/them and switch them off. i am running on Windows 2000.

Normally, you can right click in the bottom right of your screen where an icon will be present. Click on exit.

If you're using Windows' own Firewall you'll need to follow this:

Open Control Panel

In the top left hand corner of the window that opens click on Switch to Classic View

Double-click on Windows Firewall

Click on Off (not recommended), but don't forget to switch it back on once you've installed your software.

For some reason, this option doesn't seem to be available in the Category View ... at least, not on my computer it doesn't.

Well, depending on which firewall you have i recommend going into the Start menu and go onto ControlPanel. Then click on where it says Windows Firewall and then you can switch it off. If you need more help, just let me know!

What firewall do you have? Shut it down. If it's Windows firewall, go to control panel, security. You'll be alright for a few minutes if you have antivirus.
