I mean don't you think we would all be so much more accomplished if we looked out for our neighbor as much as we looked out for ourselves? I was watching something on t.v. last night with my husband about hurricane Katrina and I was so devastated all over again about it. I just wish that we didn't have to rely on a government that is just as imperfect as we are. I know we all want a perfect world and response team, but if we were just a little more self sufficient ourselves, then don't you think things like this wouldn't be as bad as they are?

It's not right or wrong, it's just my opinion on a thought I had...

I think people get so caught up in their own lives that they kind of take each other for granted. Tragedies tend to remind us how small we really are- and how much we need each other.

I kinda see it like this. If people have food, a place to live, a reasonable job or a reasonable other way to get money, then everything is mostly ok. Nobody fusses too much, worries too much , etc. But if things get bad, really bad, then change happens. Bob Dylan said " When there's no food on the table, people got a lot of knives and forks, and they're gonna cut somethin'. "

I watched the Katrina shows last night too and it does make you think. Maybe if we're looking for something good to come out of catastrophe's that's the one thing but you would think people would be more proactive in everyday life. Good question and you are exactly right..........unfortunately.............

When people have nobody but themselves to overcome obstacles needed to survive and proper they usually do better.

It is only when others see a person or group that really needs help, Then they will volunteer assistance to restore self independence to them.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

People go different ways. When there is a catastrophe the affected folks have something in common and work together.

Its because we forget often that we are all connected, and we only realize this when we need the help of a stranger or when we are frightened. It is the FEAR of having the bad thing happen again that truly causes indifference and selfishness. When everything gets back to "normal", we are back in our shells.

We only help eachother as a way of looking out for ourselves. If we help the others, then they will help us. Humans are very selfish beings.
