I have to write a 10 minute argument, I was wondering if anyone knew approximately how many type-written, 12 point Times New Roman, double spaced pages this would be.

Depends on how fast the speaker speaks.

Type a page up and read it. Then see how long it took. Then divide this number into 10 to get how many pages, you'll need.

So if it took you two minutes to read the page, then you'd need 5 pages (10 / 2).

After you do that. Determine based on your past experience, if you normally read a little faster when you present, or if you read slower and adjust accordingly.

For example, I used to get nervous and so it might take me 2 min to get through a page in practice, but when I got in front of the room, I did it in like 1 1/2 min, so I'd need to lengthen my speech.

Nowadays, I take my time to present, so it's easier for the audience to listen and learn. So I shorten the speech a little.

Hope that helps!

I'd say get out an old essay, read the first page out loud the same way you would present the speech you're going to present and time it.. Obviously you can use this to determine how many more pages you'll need to get to your ten minutes. (i.e. if it takes 2 mins , you'll need 5 pages total)

It seems like I had to do one that came out to about 5 mins and it was two pages... so quite possibly it's around 4 pages for 10 mins, but it depends on how you present things as well, as everybody differs in their speed and mannerisms.
