I want to be a housekeeper for a Hampton Inn where I live and my sister works there and she said its hard work. is it? Should i consider doing it? The reasons for me wanting to do this is that i dont have to deal with a bunch of people like if worked at the front desk there. (my sister does that) im not really a people person when it comes to people i dont know. So tell me what you think i should do. thanks

It is not mentally hard work; but it is physically difficult. It is hard on the body, your muscles and feet will be sore afterward.

It will be a good job for someone who does not like to deal with people, b/c the only interaction you will have with a guest, is if you see them walking down the halls. And then, all you have to do is say a greeting (good morning, afternoon etc).

You have to be meticulous, and be able to take criticisms. For example, your boss may tell you to go back and re-due the room if you missed something (like a hair in bathroom). So you have to be able to accept that, and go back to the room with out "back-talking" to your boss.

I was doing this kind of work for a living about 5 years ago. the most common ammount I would get is from 2 to 5 dollars (maybe a little more now) usually left under the pillow on the day of check-out. Be careful though, the hotel I used to work at moved their room attendants around to different rooms so make sure that the room attendant that has been looking after you gets the tip ! You can do this by getting in touch with the housekeeping supervisor.

It's very hard work and usually thankless.

I do not tip porters but I always leave a tip for the person who has cleaned the room. They're usually very badly paid.
