Creating 'twins' onscreen is fairly easy. it has to do with layering the video. if you have a fairly new PC you can do it yourself. Set your video camera on a tripod or on something that will not let it move and take a 30 second video of the 'background'. Then, with the video still rolling, walk into one side of the screen and say your lines as if you were talking to another person on the other side. Then stand there as if you were listening to the other person talking back to you. Then walk off the screen. Then walk back on screen but on the other side and talk to yourself as if you were on the other side. then walk away offscreen. Now if you 'chop' the scenes and layer them on top of each other and fade through them you will be able to create some very cool effects. For great information on how to do this check out the DVD 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico' and watch the extras section. There is a section called 10 minute flick school where they show you how the movie was made from the stunts, special effects, and even the sound track stuff.

The actor plays 1 part first then they stop tape. The actor changes places, reads those lines and then they do a split screen to make it look like they are 2 people.

They use to do split screen alot but now they use the green screen where the actor/actress does there lines in front of a green screen so that it may be edited over the original lines the same actor/actress has already done.

Some still use the split screen approach, although the green screen insertion is gaining promonance.
