Yes, there are city ordinances on property maintenance. It depends on where you live but if lawn gets to be unruly, code enforcement can be asked to speak with you about your lawn. It's meant to protect property values and community appearance.

Certain cities have regulations and rules concerning the beauty of ones neighborhood. If you want to look like trailer trash thats your business. Pay some kid 5 bucks to mow it for you if you're to lazy to do it yourself! Just because you don't care, maybe the people living around you that have to look at it daily, do! Remember, people are very judgemental, and what "looks' you present to others, is a reflection of you!

Sure, if you live in a city or municipality that has property ordinances, and most do. There is usually a certain height that the grass shouldn't get past. In situations like this in my city, you get so many warnings and then the city comes and mows it, and adds it to your tax bill....
or, your dad can tell you to do it! Listen to your dad!

Yes. I live in a planned community. We have homeowners association rules. Residents can be told to mow lawns. If residents do not comply, they can be fined.

Yes. The county or state government can order you to mow your lawn if it is a hazard, such as a breeding ground for rats, or if it is somehow dangerous to postal workers who deliver your mail. If you refuse to comply they may hire workers to mow your on and force you to pay for it.
Also, homeowners associations (which are EVIL) may order you to if you are a member of one.

Yup. If you live inside our city limits and your grass gets 12" high the city will warn you and if that doesn't work, they mow it for you and send you a pricy bill.

It depends on where you live, but most cities have ordinances that state that the grass cannot be over a certain amount of feet high. Check with your local government

I rent in a mobile home park - they can tell me that I have to mow my yard, since they own the land.
But, seriously, it looks better and you can find things in it better, like your car, when it is mowed.
:)
